A few days in Copenhagen

The Little Mermaid
I traveled to Copenhagen (Denmark) yesterday and will stay here a few days to get to know the city!
As I am traveling a lot these days I haven’t even gotten to finish some blogposts about my recent trip to Amsterdam. But there will be some very interesting articles coming up, that’s for sure!
Copenhagen seems to be an interesting city, although – compared to Amsterdam – it’s not that packed with attractions. Awesome design comes from here, they have some very modern buildings as their Opera House for example and many other things to discover. It’s 2°C right now and I’m enjoying the sunny weather. Summer is probably more preferable for a visit, but I don’t really mind – I’ll just enjoy. :)
Only obvious disadvantage so far: Copenhagen is reaaally expensive.

I already had the chance to walk around quite a bit and took a look at Copenhagen’s famous icon, The Little Mermaid Statue (Den lille havfrue) on a rock in the harbour.

I think I am looking forward to some interesting days to come and am planning for one day in Malmö (Sweden) as well. It’s just a 35-minute train ride from here.

Update after my trip:

In retrospect I can say the following about Copenhagen:

- The city didn’t impress me by far that much as Amsterdam did. I guess this was due to the facts that Copenhagen, in my humble opinion, just hasn’t that many things to offer that I couldn’t find in any other usual European city. It lacks a certain uniqueness.

- Spending some time there, your fun can easily get diminished by the high cost that is involved with pretty much everything you do in Copenhagen – given the assumption that you’re on a low budget. Just one little comparison to give you an idea: An ordinary coffee to go is about 3,30 € – that’s about twice as much as in Germany. Not everything costs twice as much – but everything’s darn expensive.

- If you don’t need to care about money and you’re on the lookout for good Danish design furniture, fashion, brand shops and top notch clothing in general, you’ll find plenty in Copenhagen! But of course just browsing design shops and galleries can be quite pleasant as well, as I experienced.

- Copenhagen has some very nice Cafés!

- In comparison to other hostels I’ve been around Europe, “Danhostel Copenhagen City” really disappointed. Mainly by lacking cleanliness, lots of hidden costs, the overall atmosphere, malfunctioning keycard readers throughout the whole building – getting into the kitchen was often a task of 5 minutes and elevators took many attempts as well. Furthermore the wifi often didn’t work and you were required to attain new login credentials at the counter every hour.

- Copenhagen has some very nice parks and green areas.

- Copenhagen is probably much more enjoyable in Spring or Summer.

- My advice to same aged people who want to get most value for their money: Consider other cities! South European countries are generally cheaper. Get yourself informed about cities in terms of their cost in advance – this was my main shortfall in decision making about Copenhagen.

-> I will upload some pictures soon. Unfortunately I lost half of them with the loss of my camera back at EuroAirport. Some additions will be written as they come to my mind.
